When researching, you might come across a book or article that our library doesn’t own — but that doesn’t mean you can’t get it! Through Interlibrary Loan, we can borrow materials from other libraries across the country so you can access the sources you need. Just because it’s not in our collection doesn’t mean it’s out of reach!
Interlibrary loan (ILL) refers to the service where one library makes its materials or copies of materials available to another library upon request.
This ILL service is available to currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff of Emory & Henry University and is intended to support academic research and professional development.
The E&H Library may have the item(s) you are looking for in one of our collections. Before you submit a request, please make sure to check the Library's catalog and online databases first.
For Books & Articles: try searching for your title using the Library's OneSearch (this searches all physical and electronic resources the library has)
For Articles (only): try searching in Journals by Title to see if the Library has access to the journal you are looking for.
ILL generally covers books, scans of articles, and, at the discretion of the lending library, DVDs and CDs.
Materials that are not typically lended include: rare/valuable items, bulky or fragile items, high-demand materials, and reference items.
Materials that will not be borrowed include materials for course reserve, and materials owned by the E&H Library.
Articles take 2-5 business days, and books take 3-7 business days to arrive.
The time depends on the difficulty of the request, proximity of the lending library, and the number of requests.
Failure to return interlibrary loan materials will result in blocked interlibrary loan privileges.
Patrons are responsible for any fees accrued for damaged, lost, or non-returned items, which will be billed to the Business Office.
This program enables on-site borrowing for students, faculty, and staff at participating VIVA (Virtual Library of Virginia) institutions. Patrons may use their home institution’s ID cards. Users can return materials to the lending library or participating Cooperative Borrowing libraries. It is strongly recommended that users contact the library for hours and access policies prior to visiting.
