In-Text Citations

In-text citations can appear in two methods. The author’s name or the resource title (when the author is unavailable) can be used within the sentence. 

Author referred to this fact. 

Or, the in-text citation can be in parentheses at the end of the sentence (Author). 

If the citation is from a specific place in the resource. Use the page number at the end in parentheses (##). Be sure to include the author or title in the sentence. 

 

 

Works Cited

All full citations are put in alphabetical order at the end of the paper. These are placed in alphabetical order. This list is known as Works Cited in MLA. Use hanging indentations. 

The format is as follows:

Author(s). “Title of Source/Selection.” Title of Container 1, Other Contributors, Version/Edition, Volume, Issue, Date, location. Title of Container 2, location.

Examples of things with 2 containers:

Chapter of an Ebook: Chapter is Title of Source, Book is container 1, database where the book is located is container 2

Streaming tv show: Episode is Title of Source, The TV Show is container 1, the streaming service is container 2

eJournal article: Article title is Title of Source, the title of the journal is container 1, the database where the article is located is container 2
