GoPro Hero 9 Camera

A GoPro Overview

Underneath the Power button is the microphone drain latch, this is not meant to be opened, do not try, please!

Setting Up

  • Download the GoPro App, available on the Apple Store and GooglePlay.
  • Remove the GoPro, battery, and SD Card from the case.
  • Slide back and open the side compartment where the battery and microSD card reside.
  • Insert the SD Card & Battery
  • Make sure the latch for the side compartment closes completely before you power on and start using the device.
  • Get Recording!
  • With battery and video storage taken care of, it is time to power on that GoPro and start adventuring!
  • Locate and press the “Power” button (on the left side of the device) to power on the GoPro. 
  • It will make a loud chirping sound and the screen display will light up, showing you what the device camera sees.

This kit includes a small, but durable tripod that sets up in minutes.

  • Open and unfold the tripod

  • Pop the latches on the bottom of the GoPro

  • Insert the latches into the tripod and insert the screw (included) to lock the GoPro in place.

  • Now you are ready to record!

Maneuvering the Touch Screen:

  • Tap Screen - Select an item to turn on/off
  • Swipe Up - View the last recording captured
  • Swipe Down - Access the Mode Dashboard
  • Swipe Left/Right - Switch between recording modes

There are three modes that video/picture can be captured. Quickly press the “Power” button to access these modes. Swiping down on the touch screen will also open the dashboard to these modes.
Video Mode

  • There are 4 video presets: Standard (default preset), Activity, Cinematic, and Slo-Mo
  • After selecting a preset, press the Shutter Button to start recording!

Useful On-Screen Shortcuts:

  • Tap the “Slo-Mo” icon on the touch screen, before you begin recording, to reset the frame rate to 120 fps. This will then allow you to slow down video playback to 4x normal speed. (Unavailable for 5K video.)

    • Recording in 4K30 or 2.7K30 (4:3) video will set frame rate to 60 fps, allowing 2x normal speed playback.

  • Tapping the “Digital Lense” icon on the touch screen will provide you with a list of options to scroll through that will affect the camera’s field of view, cropping, and fish eye effect in your shot.

  • The “HyperSmooth Boost” is useful when recording video in rough terrain.

  • Selecting the “Touch Zoom” icon will allow you to zoom the camera in and out.

Photo Mode

  • There are 4 photo presets: Photo (Default), LiveBurst, Burst, and Night

  • After selecting a preset, press the Shutter Button to take a picture! The Hero 9 captures photos at 20MP, with a default digital lens set to Wide.

Useful On-Screen Shortcuts:

  • The “Photo Timer” icon can set a 3 second or 10 second timer. Once you press the Shutter Button, the countdown timer will begin and the GoPro will beep and the front light will blink.

  • Tap the “Digital Lenses” icon to affect the field of view, cropping, and fish-eye effect to your photos.

  • Tapping the “Output” icon will let you decide how pictures will be processed and saved: SuperPhoto (best quality, longer processing time), HDR (combines multiple shots for better quality), Standard (jpg.), and RAW (jpg./gpr.)

  • Selecting the “Touch Zoom” icon will allow you to zoom the camera in and out.


Time Lapse Mode

  • There are 3 time lapse presets: TimeWarp (default), TimeLapse, and NightLapse.
  • After selecting a preset, press the Shutter Button to begin recording! Pressing the Shutter again will stop the recording.

Useful On-Screen Shortcuts:

  • Tap the “Digital Lenses” icon to affect the field of view, cropping, and fish-eye effect to your videos.
  • Selecting the “Touch Zoom” icon will allow you to zoom the camera in and out.
  • When the TimeWarp preset is selected, you can use the “Speed Ramp” icon to slow the speed of TimeWarp videos to 1x real speed (30 fps) or 0.5 half speed (60 fps).

Ready to transfer your videos to a computer?

  • Remove the microSD Card from the GoPro.

  • Insert the card into the SD Card Adapter.

  • Insert the Card Adapter into the computer’s SD Card slot.

  • Now copy your files!
