Mevo Start Camera

Great for: record and edit live events (sports games, school plays, conferences, concerts, etc.) at the same time.

Getting to Know & Setting Up the Mevo

Powering ON/OFF the Mevo Camera

Powering On

  • To power on the Mevo camera, press and hold the power button at the back of the camera.
  • The battery light will flash and you will hear a pair of short beeps.
  • The LEDs will blink as the camera starts up.
  • When the LED lights stabilize and stop blinking, the camera is ready.

Powering Off

  • To turn the Mevo camera off, press and hold the power button until all LEDs are lit and you hear a pair of beeps.
  • The camera will power down.

Recording with Mevo

Getting Ready to Record

  • Download the Mevo app (Google Play or iTunes) to your mobile device. You will need this before you can record with the Mevo Camera.
  • Launch the Mevo app. The screen should show an image indicating that Mevo has teamed up with Vimeo. Select next.
  • You will be prompted to create or sign-in to Vimeo account. This is optional, and not necessary to be able to use the camera.
  • After the Vimeo account screen, you will then see the connection screen where you can connect to the Mevo Camera using either a WiFi or a hotspot connection. 
     

Using the built-in audio

In the Mevo app, select the “Audio & Video” menu.
There are two audio modes:
Music – keeps full frequency, but also adds some filtering and range compressions to prevent peaking.
Speech – adds a low pass filter to increase clarity.

 

Using external audio

The Mevo Start also allows for external audio inputs via the 3.5mm located on the back of the camera.

Using the Mevo App

Mevo App Layout

Device Requirements: iOS 12 & later; Android 7.0 & later.

  •  Vimeo - Log-in and/or see information about your Vimeo account.
  •  Network Connection - Change your network connection setup.
  •  Live Streaming Destinations - Allows you to select which streaming destinations for live feeds (Facebook, Livestream, Periscope, YouTube, etc.).
  • Audio & Video - Adjust audio source and levels, echo suppression, and frame rate.
  • App Settings - Adjust settings to the app's behavior
  • MEVO Settings - Configuration setting for camera (password, Mevo button, volume, auto turn off, etc.)
  • Storage - Allows access to recordings library and to format microSD card.
  • Studio Mode - Remote camera settings when using Livestream Studio.
  • About - Information about the camera.
     

Connecting the Mevo with a Local Wi-Fi Network

Note: When you first power on the camera and open the app, by default you will be prompted to connect to the Mevo Start Hotspot mode.

To use a Wi-Fi connection:

  • Enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your mobile device.
  • Launch the Mevo App.
    • If you are using an Android device, make sure it is already connected to the desired network before launching the app.
  • A connection card for the camera should appear, tap the blue "Connect" button.
  • A pop-up message will appear giving you the options to Change Wi-Fi on Phone or Change Wi-Fi on Mevo.
    • Select Change Wi-Fi on Mevo.
    • If necessary, you may be prompted to enter your Wi-Fi network's password.
  • Once connected the camera's "Live Edit View" will open on your device.

  • Open the Mevo app on your smart device.
  • In the live edit view, tap the "Options" icon 
  • On the bottom of the screen, locate the "Image Adjustments" icon (third from left - looks like three circles)
    • The menu will open and consists of two rows. Swipe each row left to see more options:
      • Top Row - includes individual image settings.
      • Bottom Row - includes presets.

Camera Modes

There are three camera modes available: AutoShutter, and Manual.

  1. Auto - this allows shutter speed and ISO settings to adjust on their own to capture the best shot.
  2. Shutter - manually adjust the shutter speed, while the ISO setting automatically adjusts to compensate for speed.
  3. Manual - allows full control of shutter speed and ISO settings.

Locating, Saving, & Sharing Recordings

Where can I locate my videos?

  • Launch the Mevo Start app on your smart device.
  • Once in the app, locate and open the “More Options” menu. This is where you will find your recordings.

Want to share your video?

  • Once you have located your video library, to share a video tap the "Options" icon  for the video you want to share.
  • If you use Vimeo, you can upload your video straight from the Mevo app. 
    • However, if you wish to share your video somewhere else, you will first need to download the recording to your smart device.
  • After adding to your devices local storage, you can now reopen the Mevo app and select “Share” to send it to your choice of destination.

Streaming Online

Streaming to a Website

  1. Open the Mevo App on your smartdevice and connect to the Mevo Start Camera.

  2. Tap the red button in the bottom left corner of the screen to see streaming options.

  3. Under Streaming Destinations, select “My Website”.

  4. Selecting this will open a window prompting you to create an account/log-in to Vimeo*. 

*Note: You need a Vimeo Premium plan in order to go live to Vimeo.

  1. After logging in to Vimeo, you will need to authorize Mevo to access your Vimeo information before proceeding.

  2. Once authorized, you can configure your livestream.

    1. Create a new event or select a scheduled event from the bottom of the window.

    2. Select your desired audience.

    3. Give your event a Title.

    4. Select streaming quality (up to 1080p).

    5. When you have everything setup to your standards, tap “Go Live” in the upper right corner to start the stream.

  3. To end the stream, tap the small red dot, then slide the larger red dot to the right.

    1. You will be given an option to save your video to your Vimeo account or to an SD card (if being used).

    2. Select “Done” to return to the live edit view of your video.

Streaming to Livestream

  1. Open the Mevo App on your smart device and connect to the Mevo Start Camera.

  2. Tap the red button in the bottom left corner of the screen to see streaming options.

  3. Under “Streaming Destinations”, select the Livestream logo.

  4. You will be prompted to log-in to your Livestream account.

  5. Once logged in, you can configure the livestream.

    1. Create a new event or select a scheduled event from the bottom of the window.

    2. Tap the gearwheel icon to toggle Livestream Chat and Notify Followers on and off.

    3. Title your livestream.

    4. Select streaming quality by tapping the menu in the upper right corner (default is 720p).

  6. Tap “Go Live” to start the stream.

  7. To end the stream, tap the small red dot, then slide the larger red dot to the right.

    1. You will be given an option to save your video to your Vimeo account or to an SD card (if being used).

    2. Select “Done” to return to the live edit view of your video.

Streaming to Facebook

  1. Open the Mevo App on your smart device and connect to the Mevo Start Camera.

  2. Tap the red button in the bottom left corner of the screen to see streaming options.

  3. Under “Streaming Destinations”, select the Facebook Live icon.

  4. You will be prompted to log-in to your Facebook account and allow certain permissions for Mevo to connect properly.

  5. Once logged in, you can configure the livestream.

    1. Select a Facebook destination: Profile, Scheduled Live posts, Pages, or Groups.

    2. Choose to tag Location and set Audience option.

    3. The gearwheel icon will open a window allowing you to toggle chat on and off, toggle on/off “Continue Streaming”, and also log out of account.

    4. Title your livestream.

    5. Select streaming quality (up to 720p).

  6. Tap “Go Live” to start the stream.

  7. To end the stream, tap the small red dot, then slide the larger red dot to the right.

    1. You will be given an option to save your video to your Facebook feed, Vimeo account or to an SD card (if being used).

    2. Select “Done” to return to the live edit view of your video.

Streaming to Twitter (X) & Periscope

  1. Open the Mevo App on your smart device and connect to the Mevo Start Camera.

  2. Tap the red button in the bottom left corner of the screen to see streaming options.

  3. Under “Streaming Destinations”, select the Periscope/Twitter (X) icon.

  4. You will be prompted to log-in to your Periscope account and allow certain permissions for Mevo to connect properly.

  5. Once logged in (you will receive a pop-up stating Periscope’s streaming quality is locked at 720p), you can configure the livestream.

    1. Tap your profile name (lower left corner) to select it as your streaming destination.

    2. Tap the Twitter/X icon to also push your stream to Twitter (it will turn blue when enabled, white when disabled).

    3. Title your livestream.

  6. Tap “Go Live” to start the stream.

  7. To end the stream, tap the small red dot, then slide the larger red dot to the right.

    1. You will be given an option to save your video to your Periscope feed, Vimeo account or to an SD card (if being used).

    2. Select “Done” to return to the live edit view of your video.

Streaming to Custom Destinations

  1. Open the Mevo App on your smartdevice and connect to the Mevo Start Camera.

  2. Tap the red button in the bottom left corner of the screen to see streaming options.

  3. Under “Streaming Destinations”, select the “RTMP” icon.

    1. Tap +New RTMP to add new destination.

    2. Name your streaming destination, then enter your provider’s RTMP URL and Stream Key. Tap “Add” when done.

    3. Your RTMP provider will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap to select it. The “Go Live” button should light up red, meaning its ready to stream.

  4. Tap “Go Live” to start the stream.

  5. To end the stream, tap the small red dot, then slide the larger red dot to the right.

    1. You will be given an option to save your video to your Vimeo account or to an SD card (if being used).

    2. Select “Done” to return to the live edit view of your video.

Streaming to Multiple Destinations

Note: to access this feature, a Vimeo Producer or Vimeo Premium plan is required.

  1. Open the Mevo App on your smart device and connect to the Mevo Start Camera.

  2. Tap the red button in the bottom left corner of the screen to see streaming options.

    1. On the right side, there is a toggle switch labeled “Multi Destination.”

  3. Once the “Multi Destination” is toggle on you can select the providers you want to stream to. There is a limit of up to 10 simultaneous streaming destinations.

  4. Once each destination is selected and configured, Tap “Go Live” to start the stream.

  5. To end the stream, tap the small red dot, then slide the larger red dot to the right.

    1. You will be given an option to save your video to all feeds being streamed to, Vimeo account, or to an SD card (if being used).

    2. Select “Done” to return to the live edit view of your video.

Graphic Overlays

Using Graphic Overlays

*Note: You need a Vimeo Produces or Vimeo Premium plan in order to access these features.

Types of Overlays available:

Lower Thirds - for identifying speaker's names, locations, and/or tips.

Over-the-Shoulder (OTS) - for displaying larger images on either side of the screen, i.e. to enhance a presentation.

Corner Bug - for displaying a small logo or icon in a corner of the screen.

Full Screen - for overlaying the entire picture, ideal for slates during inactivity or sliders in a presentation.

Recommended Specifications for Images

The Mevo app supports PNG and JPEG files.

Recommended resolutions:

  • Corner Bugs and Lower Thirds: 180x180 pixels
  • Over-the-Shoulder: 624x352 pixels
  • Full Screen: 1920x1080 pixels

Accessing and Using Overlays

  • In the live edit view, tap the "Canvas" icon in the lower right corner.
  • Several options for overlays will appear. 
  • Select which type of overlay you want for your video.
    • To use an image, tap the image icon above the overlay.
      • You will need to allow Mevo access to your phone's camera and photos.
    • To add text, tap the "Single Line" or "Two Line" icons above the overlay.
      • At the bottom of the screen is a color pallet where you can select the color of the background and text. 
  • Tap the "Checkmark" on the right side when you are finished with your overlay.
