Getting to Know the Video Camera

Powering the Video Camera On/Off

Powering On

  • To power on, open the LCD monitor and press the power button
  • The status indicator will light on.

Powering Off

  • Hold down on the power button until the status indicator goes off.

Selecting a Mode

There are two modes available with this video camera.

  1. Recording Mode: Here you can switch between Motion Picture Recording Mode or Still Picture Recording Mode.
  2. Playback Mode: View previously captured videos/pictures.

How do I access and switch between these modes?

To switch between Recording Mode and Playback Mode:

  1. Locate and press the recording/playback button  on the device to switch between modes.

To switch between Motion Picture Recording and Still Picture Recording:

  1. Press the recording/playback button  on the device to switch the device to Recording Mode. Note: when you first power on the device, it defaults to recording mode.
  2. Next, on the Display Screen, touch the Recording Mode Switching Icon 

Recording Video

  1. Open the LCD monitor and make sure the camera is powered on. 
  2. Set camera to Motion Picture Recording (the camera should be in this mode by default when first powered on).
  3. Press the Recording Start/Stop Button to begin recording.
  4. To end your recording, press the Recording Start/Stop Button again.

Capturing Still Images

  1. Open the LCD monitor and make sure the camera is powered on.
  2. The camera defaults to Motion Picture Recording, you will want to set the camera (using the touch screen) to Still Picture Recording Mode.
  3. Press the camera button  halfway to Auto Focus.
  4. Press the camera button  fully to capture a still image.

Navigating Playback

  1. Locate and press the recording/playback button  on the device to switch device to Playback Mode.

  2. On the LCD Touch Screen, touch the Play Mode Select button.

  3. After pressing the Play Mode Select button, you have the option to select Motion Video or Still Image playback.

  4. Select the recording format you want to review.

  5. On the LCD Touch Screen, touch the video or image to be played back.

  6. Playback operation icons will appear on the left side of the screen: 

 (Fast Forward)    (Rewind)    (Stop)    (Play/Pause)

       7. To listen to and adjust the volume of video playback use the Zoom Lever (on the top of the device).

Recording Mode Options

Intelligent Auto: Optimizes settings to the recording environment you are in.

Intelligent Auto Plus: You can add manually-adjusted brightness and color balance settings to the Intelligent Auto Mode, and record.

Creative Control: Record motion picture with added effects.

HDR Movie: Minimize the loss of gradations in bright and/or dark areas.

Scene Mode: Allows the device to automatically adjust the shutter speed and aperture, etc. according to the scene you want to record.

Manual: Set the shutter speed, focus, white balance, and brightness.

FULL HD Slow Motion Video: Record slow motion pictures. 

Charging the Video Camera's Battery

When you check out the Panasonic Camera from the Library, its battery should have a full charge. Battery life for the Panasonic varies depending on the format of the video you are capturing:

*The Actual recordable time refers to the recordable time when repeatedly starting/stopping recording, turning the unit on/off, moving the zoom lever, etc.

Battery Indicator

The LCD monitor displays an battery icon  to show battery health.

  • If there is less than 3 minutes remaining, the icon  will become red.
  • When the battery is drained, the icon  will flash.
